Why VPS Downgrades Are Not Supported

We understand that some customers may want to downgrade their VPS service to a smaller plan. However, due to technical limitations, downgrading a VPS, particularly when it involves reducing disk space, is not supported. Here’s why:

1. Risk of Data Loss: Reducing the disk space on an existing VPS can lead to data corruption or loss. To prevent this, we do not offer downgrades. Most cloud providers face similar challenges when attempting to decrease disk size, as it poses a significant risk to the integrity of your data.

2. Single Disk Allocation: Some providers use separate disks for the operating system and user data, which may allow limited downgrades. We have experimented with this method, but it posed issues for customers who needed more disk space for software installations. Therefore, we use a single disk per VPS, which ensures optimal performance and flexibility, but it prevents us from downgrading disk space without compromising data safety.

3. Price Reductions and New Setup: When we reduce VPS prices, it often involves using new hardware, servers, and software to maintain our minimal profit margins (around 1-2%). Unfortunately, migrating existing setups to newer infrastructure is either too complex or not feasible.

How to Proceed with Downgrading

If you wish to downgrade your VPS plan, the best option is to purchase a new VPS with the desired specifications. You can then migrate your data to the new VPS and cancel your existing one. This method ensures that your data remains intact and avoids any potential issues with disk space reduction.
