KVM stands for Kernel-based Virtual Machine. It id open source virtualization technology built into Linux that allows you to run multiple isolated virtual machines (VMs) on a single host machine. KVM works with QEMU, an emulator that visualizes the hardware for the guest systems.
KVM works by using the CPU virtualization technology extensions on modern intel and AMD processors, known as intel-VT and AMD-V. It loads a kernel module into memory that uses the processor to emulate a hardware layer for guest systems.
